RPF Group is developing two Seniors Living residential villages located in Mawson St, Shortland and Sandgate Rd, Wallsend. These developments will be sister villages to the successful Cumberland Grove over 55s village, which is located in Marton St, Shortland.

The Cumberland Glen proposal on Mawson St seeks to construct 36 villas and a community centre. The Cumberland Gardens proposal on Sandgate Rd seeks to construct 46 villas and a community centre.

Both developments will contain landscaping throughout and a number of internal open space recreation areas. The villas on the site will be provided on long-term leasing arrangements in order to provide an affordable option for local residents who wish to downsize from their existing homes. An on-site manager will oversee the operation and maintenance of the villages and their facilities.

Our research identifies a high need in Shortland/Wallsend for aged housing, with a lack of local retirement living options emerging as a theme in our discussions with the community. A lack of affordable housing options for older people has also been identified in Newcastle City Council’s Social Plan.

The Cumberland Glen and Cumberland Gardens Retirement Village proposal offers the opportunity to address both the identified gap of aged housing in Shortland and Wallsend areas and the desire of older people to remain within the local community.
